I followed you out to this desolate place… : a poem

I followed you out to this desolate place
but now I can’t hear you above this storm.
I feel abandoned. Tears pour down my face.
Their salty streams my only food and drink.
Please, LORD, it’s you my soul is panting for
your flesh true food indeed and blood true drink.
Through day and night your steadfast love is sure
as the salvation that you won for me.
The serpent hisses “Where’s the God you trust
within the breakers crashing over you?”
I close my ears and reach for you in prayer
I’ll sing of your salvation while I weep.
Do not despair my soul though deep calls deep
hope in the LORD, your savior and your King.

Based on Psalm 42
