i am a sheep who’s gone astray: a poem

i am a sheep who’s gone astray
today and probably tomorrow.
my best efforts are in vain
again and again i fail.

but You are God the loving Father
no other is above your name.
Your Mercy Incarnate, Christ who came
tamed death and broke sin’s chain.

tie my weary life to Yours.
Your kingdom come and will be done.
i’ll serve You all my living days
and rise to life eternal.

there let this sheep, this lamb of Thine
recline forever at Your breast.
that safety i’ve been longing for
before Your throne in perfect rest.
