All His Work is Done in Faithfulness

“For the word of the LORD is upright and all his work is done in faithfulness.”

Psalm 33:4

Pregnancy has never been very fun for me. I suffer from extreme nausea during the first trimester which often lands me in bed for about two months straight. After that, I slowly pull myself back onto my feet only to get knocked down again by excessive fatigue. I struggle forward like I’m wading waist deep in syrup, watching the weeks slowly tick down to the release of labor when my prize will finally be in my arms instead of my bulging belly.

Needless to say, I am not a cheerful pregnant person.

One night, this verse from the Psalms reached out to me in my place of pain, nausea, fatigue, and depression and wrapped the phrase around my heart: “all his work is done in faithfulness.”

All his work. His work in salvation. His work in me. His work within my body to build this precious new life.

In my current place of suffering, I am moment by moment forgetting and remembering, not only the blessing to come of my struggle, but His faithfulness. All his work in me is faithful. He will guide me through this valley. He will protect my body and my child. This pain, this season, is not forever. Forever is hope. Forever are His promises and He is faithful to his word, just as He is faithful to his work. I am His work – His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for the good works He has prepared ahead for me.

And one of those good works He is preparing me to complete is this pregnancy.

Pregnancy is a blessing. It is the miracle of a new soul that God places in the charge of His creations. God preplanned this pregnancy, this precious little boy, for me. Raising, holding, naming, and loving my son will be blessings I will reap from completing the good work God has begun in my womb. If He began the work He will be faithful to complete it, because all His work is done in faithfulness.

I don’t know what work you are slogging through today, but hold onto this thought: Our God is faithful in all His work, this includes whatever work He is currently working through you.
