Sonnets for Advent: Friday week 3

Based on John 9:1-7

Oh Father, why did you make me so bro-
ken? Sometimes it feels like I cannot walk.
I limp along alone in darkness, blind
and helpless. Why? Who sinned that you inflict
me thus? Is there purpose in the darkness
that floods my senses? And He answered, “Yes.
There always is a purpose and that pur-
pose is my kingdom and my glory which
I want to share with you.” And then Jesus
turned the fallen dirt beneath my feet
into a healing salve. My sightless eyes
have been anointed by the Light of Christ.
I’d find Christmas depressing, but for He
whose Advent healed the lame and let bind see.
