Sonnets for Advent: Sunday week 4

Based on Isaiah 11:1-10

The Spirit of the LORD is on the move.
The world of endless winter white has thawed.
A tender shoot has bloomed from Jesse’s stump.
The fruit it bares is wisdom, justice, might.
It grows in favor with the LORD His God,
delighting to obey His Father’s law.
He’ll judge the poor and meek in righteousness
and roll like thunder at the wicked. This
coming age of peace will fill the moun-
tains and the valleys with a spring so fresh
that calf and bear and wolf and lamb and child
will live and play in harmony and rest.
Once Aslan, David’s lion, starts to roar
the earth will fill with knowledge of the LORD.
