Sonnets for Advent: Thursday week 4

Based on Matthew 4:14-16

When the first Adam chose to disobey
darkness fell across creation. God,
brokenhearted, had to banish His
children to the wilderness of sin.
But even then He had a plan to res-
cue them. The seed of woman would destroy
the serpent, crush its head beneath His heel.
The time of waiting for Messiah stretched
too long for waiting man and hope became
despair. Yet lo, an uncreated light
from heaven shook the sleeping world when God
one night was laid into His manger bed.
And Death’s dark shadow split apart that night
when dawned in Bethlehem this Child of Light.
