Sonnets for Advent: Thursday week 2

Based on John 12:35-36

Though Christ no longer walks upon this earth
but has ascended to His Father’s side,
His warning to His followers before
His death upon the cross is still poignant:
“The Light is here for a short time. Walk in
The Light. Don’t stumble in the dark or wan-
der aimlessly.” You’ve seen the light! Look now
upon that Light, the Son of Man lifted
up, stricken on a tree in this barren
wilderness, this broken, sinful earth.
From heaven to manger, cross to grave to sky,
believe in Light and become Sons of Light.
So come unto the stable, humbly bow.
The Light has come! Salvation’s time is now.
