Sonnets for Advent: Sunday week 3

based on Isaiah 60:1-3

The earth was dark inside the void until
The Word said, “Let there be light!” And there was
until we bowed to hissing words that told
us we could be our own God. So we fell
into dark. Trapped. Whimpering for res-
cue. Powerless to save ourselves, Christ the
LORD and Light and Word shone hard on us.
Now we who beg to see His glory can
like Moses be reflectors of this mar-
velous Light that’s risen like dawn in splendor
over all the world. Remption’s light
blazed through night to the manger. Light has won!
So shine this Light that’s risen over you
and call the nations to His dawning too.
